The Button Farm is set on 40 pristine acres and is Maryland’s only living history center depicting 19th-century slavery and plantation life. The 1850s farm features a Reconstruction-era barn, historic outbuildings, livestock pens, heirloom gardens and a slave cemetery. The farm is home to our signature program — The Underground Railroad Immersion Experience— an experiential, sensory journey depicting the flight from slavery to freedom.
Welcome to the Button Farm self-guided tour. Here you will find a map of the farm, additional information, and activities. We have also included a map of the trails surrounding the farm which can be accessed at our front entrance gate.
Please remember you are in a Leave No Trace park, so please carry out any trash that you bring in. MASKS MUST BE WORN in the Pavilion, Museum Garden and House Gift Shop, and anytime when close to others who are not in your group. Please maintain a 6-feet of separation between you and others at all times.
